Excited states in Br-77 were investigated via the reactions As-75(alph
a,2n)Br-77 and Ge-73, Ge-74, (Li-7,xn)Br-77 at beam energies of 27 and
35 MeV, respectively. On the basis of coincidence and angular distrib
ution data of the gamma rays the known level sequences of positive and
negative parity were extended to tentative spins of 25/2HBAR, and a n
ew decay sequence beginning at spin and parity of (17/2-) was found. T
his new sequence is discussed in terms of the 3-quasiparticle configur
ation (pig9/2 x nug9/2 x nu(p1/2, P3/2, f5/2)). Moreover, the irregula
rity found in the moments of inertia at HomegaBAR almost-equal-to 0.4
MeV for the negative-parity band is attributed to a g9/2 quasiproton a
lignment.
