Abstract
From experimental E2 matrix elements, the asymmetry shape parameter de lta(eff) (corresponding to Bohr's model parameter gamma) is derived fo r the ground states of some fifty even-even nuclei with 94 less-than-o r-equal-to A less-than-or-equal-to 192 (42 less-than-or-equal-to Z les s-than-or-equal-to 76) by the sum-rule method. For the nuclei studied, an overall correlation between asymmetry and quadrupole deformation e merges.
