Abstract
We observe the effects of noise and dissipation on dynamical localizat ion. Our system consists of cold cesium atoms in a pulsed standing wav e of light, and is an experimental realization of the delta-kicked rot or. We compare the effects of amplitude noise with those of spontaneou s scattering. The experimental signature in both cases is an increased growth in energy, with qualitatively similar momentum distributions. [S0031-9007(98)06761-1].
