Abstract
Eighty cigarette smokers completed the Eysenck Personality Questionnai re-Revised, the Self-Administered Nicotine Dependence Scale, and the S moking Motivation Questionnaire. Neuroticism was associated with score s an the Smoking Motivation Questionnaire, with more neurotic individu als scoring higher on the Automatic and Habitual scale and the Negativ e Affect Control scale. Neither Psychoticism or Extraversion were asso ciated with scores on the Smoking Motivation Questionnaire, although E xtraversion was negatively associated with Social Skills Deficit as me asured using the Self-Administered Nicotine Dependence Scale. These da ta provide further evidence that personality is associated with smokin g motivation and other variables related to continued smoking behaviou r. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
