Henry E. Garrett (1894-1973) was the President of the American Psychol

ity from 1941 to 1955 In the 1950s Garrett helped organize an internat
ional group of scholars dedicated to preventing race mixing, preservin
g segregation, and promoting the principles of early 20th century euge
nics and ''race hygiene.'' Garrett became a leader in the fight agains
t integration and collaborated with those who sought to revitalize the
ideology of National Socialism. I discuss the intertwined history the
International Association for the Advancement of Ethnology and Eugeni
cs (IAAEE), the journal Mankind Quarterly, the neofascist Northern Lea
