Respiratory conditions are one of the most serious group of diseases a
ffecting turkeys in Austria and are continueing to cause heavy economi
c losses. The present paper describes thr isolation of Ornithobacteriu
m rhinotracheale from a meat turkey flock in Austria. In January 1997
respiratory signs were observed in the 20 weeks old turkey flock. The
morbidity was about 5 and mortality reacted 0.75% within 10 days after
the onset of clinical symptoms. Bacteriological examination of the lu
ngs resulted in isolation of Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale. It was c
onfirmed to be of serotype A by the agar gel precipitation test.
