Sq. Li et al., SMAQ - A MEASUREMENT-BASED TOOL FOR TRAFFIC MODELING AND QUEUING ANALYSIS PART II - NETWORK APPLICATIONS, IEEE communications magazine, 36(8), 1998, pp. 66
SMAQ is a measurement-based Cool for integration of traffic modeling a
nd queuing analysis. it can be used in a variety of network design are
as. For instance, it can be used as a traffic generator to generate va
rious traces for network testing. It also provides numerical solutions
of the queue length and loss rate performance for transport of multim
edia traffic. Several application modules are built into the tool for
the evaluation of statistical multiplexing, buffer dimensioning, and l
ink bandwidth allocation. Other examples include the evaluation of tra
ffic shaping, local congestion control, and the modeling of wireless c
hannel dynamics. As one will find, the SMAQ tool indeed provides a sol
ution technique for network engineers to solve many of the current des
ign issues. A trial version of the Web-based SMAQ tool can be found on
our Web site at http://www.apollo.ece.utexas.edu.
