A 24 year old man presented with acute endocarditis of the mitral valv
e. Rupture of a mycotic cerebral aneurysm on the 20th day was successf
ully treated by interventional catheterisation. Several days later, he
underwent mitral valvuloplasty under good conditions. The postoperati
ve period was uncomplicated but emergency surgery was required for a m
ycotic aneurysm of the superior mesenteric artery. The patient was dis
charged from hospital without severe neurological sequellae and with a
continent mitral valve.
