Abstract
Nonlinear optical chromophores with thiophene groups incorporated in t he conjugated system were synthesized. Their second-order nonlinear re sponse was evaluated by electric-field-induced second-harmonic generat ion (EFISHG) measurements. Off-resonant values mu beta(0) as high as 5 89.10(-48) esu were obtained. Some of the D pi A (donor-accepted conju gated) systems were incorporated as side chain into MMA-chromophore fu nctionalised methacrylate copolymers in various concentrations. The co polymers show a decrease in T-g with increasing chromophore content. ( C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
