S. Senz et al., ORIENTATION RELATIONSHIPS OF REACTIVELY GROWN BA6TI17O40 AND BA2TISI2O8 ON BATI0(3)(001) DETERMINED BY X-RAY-DIFFRACTOMETRY (VOL 81, PG 1317, 1998), Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 81(8), 1998, pp. 2220-2220
The orientation relationships of reactively formed phases during BaTiO
3 sintering in the presence of the sintering aid SiO3 are studied by h
elp of a model experiment. Thin, amorphous SiO2 films are deposited on
(001) surfaces of BaTiO3 single crystals and subsequently heated in a
ir at temperatures between 700 degrees and 1200 degrees C. The SiO2 fi
lms react with the BaTiO3 crystals, forming the phases Ba2TiSi2O8 (fre
snoite) and Ba6Ti17O40. Fresnoite grows at 700 degrees and 800 degrees
C, and Ba6Ti7O40 grows at 1200 degrees C with definite orientations,
which are determined by X-ray diffraction pole figure analysis. Partia
lly textured fresnoite is formed at higher temperatures.
