R. Desouza et Zz. Ying, KNOWLEDGE-INTENSIVE SIMULATION AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE HARD-DISK DRIVE INDUSTRY, Journal of intelligent manufacturing, 9(3), 1998, pp. 251-263
Simulation modelling has gained prominence in industrial applications.
However, simulation has repeatedly failed to capture the dynamics of
intelligent activities in the modern industrial scenario. It is these
dynamics that do not engender required levels of confidence in the sim
ulation results. An integrated intensive knowledge-based simulation mo
del is presented that combines elements of precise, muddy and random k
nowledge to improve conventional simulation models. Performance and ef
ficiency, and an object-oriented knowledge organization structure are
addressed to provide significant flexibility, probability and reusabil
ity of the knowledge. The simulation is validated in the hard disk dri
ve assembly environment.
