The BIAcore biosensor was used to detect binding of Escherichia coli O
157:H7 with specific antibodies. Immobilized Protein A or Protein G ca
ptured antibodies which in turn bound to the bacteria. Alternatively,
immobilized antibody captured the E. coli O157:H7 and the bacteria wer
e further probed by a second antibody which enhanced the signal. The r
egenerated sensor surfaces were used for at least 50 separate analyses
. The surface plasmon resonance biosensor has potential for use in rap
id, real-time detection and identification of bacteria, and to study t
he interaction of organisms with different antisera or other molecular
species.
