F. Cardoni et al., AEROSOL SAMPLING AND WIND STUDIES FOR THE IDENTIFICATION OF POLLUTANTS SOURCES, Journal of wind engineering and industrial aerodynamics, 74-6, 1998, pp. 327-334
A two-stage streaker sampler was exposed to collect size-fractionated
aerosol samples in Geneva. Samples were analysed by particle induced X
-ray emission (PIXE) at the Van Der Graaff facility of the INFN of Flo
rence. Hourly concentration of elements from Na to Pb were measured bo
th for the fine (aerodynamic diameter, D-ac <2.5 mu m) and coarse (2.5
< D-ae < 10 mu m) fraction. Data were analysed by applying the time s
eries and principal component analysis (PCA) and the source profiles b
y unique ratios (SPUR) technique. Correlations with atmospheric parame
ters (wind direction and speed, pressure, temperature, etc.) have been
studied. A picture of the aerosol composition of Geneva and of its so
urces is presented. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved
