O. Furuya et al., PROPER PLACEMENT OF ENERGY ABSORBING DEVICES FOR REDUCTION OF WIND-INDUCED VIBRATION CAUSED IN HIGHRISE BUILDINGS, Journal of wind engineering and industrial aerodynamics, 74-6, 1998, pp. 931-942
The passive energy absorbing device such as a storey-installation type
damper will be the most ideal device in the case of reducing the stru
ctural responses of high-rise or slender buildings against the various
levels of inputs from traffic induced vibration to destructive vibrat
ion. However, the optimal placement methods for distributing these typ
es of dampers to each storey have not yet been established. This study
applies a genetic algorithm to obtain a proper placement of the dampe
rs in each storey of the building. In this paper, the proper placement
in a 40-storey building model in which the strong wind is induced to
the building is investigated. The proper placement in this study will
satisfy the evaluation condition such as a vibration control effect, a
n economical effect and a damper performance for arranging the damper
in each storey. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
