This paper describes the aerodynamic vibration characteristics of both
fullscale cables of cable-stayed bridges and the cable models in the
wind tunnel tests. The wavelet analysis is applied in order to clarify
the nonstationary characteristics of cable vibration and the mechanis
m of the low frequency component of vortex shedding and lift force flu
ctuation. Furthermore, the cable with elliptical thick plates being pr
oposed, the suppressing mechanism against the galloping instability is
