This paper analyses the evolution of industrial democracy in Russia du
ring a period of transition. A 'social space' for industrial democracy
and its actors is only beginning to appear. On the one hand, communis
t ideology and the practice of state socialism are ending but, on the
other hand, the collectivist and quasi-collectivist workers attitudes
continue. These factors influence the stages and forms in the labour m
ovement and define the prevalence of those models of privatization whi
ch give decisive privileges to the workers' teams.
