This article reveals the effects of the economic reform and, in partic
ular, of the lifting of price controls in 1992 by the Yeltzin-Gaidar g
overnment, on the living standards of the Russian population. The anal
ysis shows a sharp decrease in real wages. At the same time, the inter
-industry and inter-regional differentiation in personal incomes has i
ncreased considerably. This affects, most of all, employees on fixed i
ncomes, who have had the most dramatic decline in living standards.
