1. Immunocytochemical investigations with antibodies raised against se
veral biologically active peptides have been carried out on cerebro-pe
dal and visceral ganglia of the scallop Pecten maximus, at different s
tages of reproductive cycle. 2. All antisera used (anti-FMRFa, anti-me
thionine-enkephalin, anti-somatostatin, anti-insulin, anti-APGWa and a
nti-alphaCDCP) revealed immunoreactive structures at any investigated
stage. 3. Description and localization of positive neurons and fibres
are given for each antiserum. 4. The highest numbers of reacting cells
were found with anti-FMRFa and methionine-enkephalin whereas alphaCDC
P-like material was the less abundant.
