We investigate the independent quasiparticle picture for superdeformed
nuclei of the mass-190 region, which is expected to lead to additivit
y in certain physical quantities. Obvious deviations from additivity a
re found from both experimental data and projected shell model calcula
tions. The cause of the deviation can be decomposed and identified thr
ough this model. Our study suggests that the independent quasiparticle
picture may not be fully appropriate for this mass region.
