D. Clarke et al., POLARIMETRIC OBSERVATIONS OF SOUTHERN-HEMISPHERE YOUNG SOLAR-TYPE STARS, Astronomy and astrophysics (Berlin), 336(2), 1998, pp. 604-612
A report is given on some linear and circular polarimetric observation
s of young solar-type stars. Despite a somewhat high level of instrume
ntal polarization, the measurements: were able to detect polarizations
similar to 0.0001 or 0.01%. Temporal variability has been discovered
for 59 Vir with an indication that circular polarization is also prese
nt. A polarization at a level of p similar to 1% was found associated
with the star SAO 251015. Marginal polarizations are also suspected fo
r the stars HD 155555 and HD 1835. For SAO 154972 (TU Pyx), a sudden c
hange in polarization similar to 2% occurred over some tens of minutes
and an associated circular polarization was also detected.
