Da. Rew et M. Baum, CAMPAIGN STRATEGY AND TACTICS FOR CLINICAL-TRIALS IN SURGICAL ONCOLOGY, European journal of surgical oncology, 24(4), 1998, pp. 269-274
The strategic planning of the campaign against cancer and the employme
nt of clinical trials on a national and supranationaI basis could be i
mproved. Lessons and principles derived from other spheres of ordered
activity might be usefully applied to the realm of clinical trials. Pr
inciples taught by military strategists may find practical application
s in the development and prosecution of successful clinical trials of
cancer therapy. In this paper we reflect upon the parallels and diverg
ences between the principles of campaign strategy needed for the succe
ssful prosecution of military objectives and the efficient and effecti
ve prosecution of major clinical trials.
