Abstract
The title conversions were shown to involve as key intermediates new d icyanodiene systems, that can be isolated in high yields under mild co nditions; their structures, inferred from analytical and spectral data , were confirmed by an X-ray study. Some improvements for the syntheti c methodology connected with this finding are discussed. (C) 1998 Else vier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
