Abstract
This paper gives an overview of some of ISM's major Java(TM) efforts a nd sets forth a structure that relates the individual Java efforts to one another. The paper describes ISM's overall approach toward Java an d describes how ISM is exploiting Java to answer customer requirements in such areas as server platforms, reusable components, and tools. Th is paper will serve as an introduction to some of the other papers tha t are included in this issue of the IBM Systems Journal and that detai l individual areas of ISM's focus on Java.
