The morphological spectrum of malignant melanoma is broad. Unusual str
omal changes can distract pathologists from the correct diagnosis. Fib
roblastic, chondroid, osteoid, and myxoid stroma have been documented
in melanomas. Myxoid melanoma is problematic-introducing carcinomas an
d soft tissue sarcomas into the differential diagnosis. This review ex
amines the clinicopathologic aspects of myxoid malignant melanoma, wit
h emphasis on its differential diagnosis. Copyright (C) 1998 by W.B. S
