Abstract
Optical fields with scale- and shape-invariant transverse intensity pr ofiles consisting of a prescribed distribution of bright spots are int roduced. Approximations of such fields are demonstrated by means of bi nary annular-aperture diffractive elements. (C) 1998 Optical Society o f America.
