Y. Debaraj et Tk. Singh, STUDIES ON SOME ASPECTS OF PREY-PREDATOR INTERACTION WITH REFERENCE TO CABBAGE APHID, BREVICORYNE-BRASSICAE (LINNAEUS) AND ITS PREDATORY INSECTS, Journal of advanced zoology, 19(1), 1998, pp. 50-54
Prey-predator interaction with reference to cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne
brassicae and its predatory insects (Coccinellids and syrphids) was s
tudied. Data on the aspects of the population trends of both the prey
and the predator groups, feeding efficiency, development, sizes of the
predator larvae were presented. Field data revaled that the populatio
n trend of both the predator groups closely synchronised with that of
the prey. Of the predators, syrphids showed significantly a high posit
ive correlation with the aphid. While among the density-independent fa
ctors, temperature and rainfall showed negative correlation indicating
profound influence in the population regulation of the aphid. Compara
tive feeding efficiency showed the syrphid, Metasyrphus (M.) Confrater
is the most voracious than the others.
