Vainguinim Beach is a small and narrow pocket beach located on the roc
ky coast of Dona Paula Bay, at the estuarine front of the Zuari River
in Goa, India. The beach has been widely used for recreation and swimm
ing by a large number of tourists. The beach sediments consist primari
ly shell fragments and quartz, with heavy minerals composed of ilmenit
e, magnetite and manganese. The black stain of the fine-grained heavy
minerals deposited on the beach face reduces the aesthetics of the bea
ch. This paper summarises the various studies undertaken to identify t
he sediment processes and the possible measures to improve the usabili
ty of the beach.
