While managed care strategies have been associated with reductions in
the utilization of clinical resources, their impact on health care out
comes in general, and women's health services, in particular, remains
unclear. This review summarizes recent literature regarding the impact
of managed care on clinical resource use, outcomes of women's health
services, and cost effectiveness of women's health care processes. Imp
lications of these findings for women's health providers, women's heal
th services and policy, and health services research are discussed. (C
