Abstract
Fatty acid profiles, total lipid contents of 12 green macroalgae colle cted from south east Australia were analysed. These algae belong to si x Codium species. The major fatty acids are 16:0, 18:1 omega 9, 18:3 o mega 3, 16:3 omega 3, 18:2 omega 6 and 20:4 omega 6. Total polyunsatur ated fatty acid contents ranged from 17.2 to 54.4%. Total lipid conten ts were from 7.3 to 21.1%. There were large variations in individual f atty acid contents according to species, season and location. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
