Abstract
The electrooxidation mechanism of glyoxylic acid has been investigated on an Au polycrystalline electrode in acidic medium. The kinetic para meters deduced: Tafel slope, reaction order with respect to glyoxylic acid concentration, reaction order with respect to the pH, apparent ac tivation enthalpy, entropy and Gibbs energy, and the final products de tected after oxidation are in agreement with an electrooxidation mecha nism beginning with an adsorption and a rate determining step in which the adsorbate becomes oxidized in a monoelectronic transfer reaction.
