Abstract
Streptococcus iniae is a cause of septicemia, meningoencephalitis, and death in farmed fish and of cellulitis in human beings. A set of nest ed oligonucleotide PCR primers that specifically amplified a 373-bp su bunit from a variety of clinical isolates from farmed fish and human p atients were constructed from a 524-bp consensus sequence of the S. in iae 16S-23S ribosomal DNA intergenic spacer.
