Abstract
We construct a mathematical model of the dieting process and investiga te the properties of its solutions. While the general solution cannot be explicitly obtained, we show that all the important features can be determined by use of geometrical techniques and linear stability anal ysis. The results of this study are consistent with all accepted facts relating to the dieting process.
