Sc. Sharma et al., PERFORMANCE OF HYDROSTATIC HYBRID JOURNAL BEARINGS WITH UNCONVENTIONAL RECESS GEOMETRIES/, Tribology transactions, 41(3), 1998, pp. 375-381
A theoretical study using FEM is performed of multirecess capillary co
mpensated hydrostatic/hybrid journal bearings which find use in number
of engineering applications. In this study, bearings having four diff
erent recess shapes were observed for their static and dynamic perform
ance parameters which include minimum film thickness, flow rate, rotor
dynamic coefficients and threshold speed. The bearings with four diffe
rent recess geometries included in the present study were a square rec
ess bearing, a circular recess bearing, a triangular recess bearing an
d an elliptical recess bearing. Comparisons of performance characteris
tics were made to determine which recess shape gives the best performa
nce. The results presented in this paper are expected to hell, machine
tool designers make better use of the recess shapes.
