Abstract
Structure and optical properties of Dy3+ doped KY(WO4)(2) single cryst als have been studied. The electronic and infra-red absorption, emissi on and Raman spectra have been measured in the temperature region from 300 to 5 K. Intensities of the absorption transitions have been analy sed by means of the Judd-Ofelt theory and radiative lifetimes of the D y3+ excited states have been evaluated. The inhomogeneous broadening o f the emission bands has been explained on the basis of the disorder d istribution of the cationic sites in the scheelite structure of the cr ystal. The X-ray structural analysis of the crystal under investigatio n is reported. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
