S. Schweizer et al., APPLICABILITY OF THE NEAREST-NEIGHBOR-INTERACTION MODEL FOR STACKING-FAULT ENERGIES, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 48(19), 1993, pp. 14706-14707
In a recent paper [N. M. Rosengaard and H. L. Skriver, Phys. Rev. B 47
, 12 865 (1993)], it has been demonstrated by means of the linear-muff
in-tin-orbital theory in the atomic-sphere approximation that the ener
gies for the fcc stacking faults may be reasonably estimated in a near
est-neighbor-interaction model from the energy differences between the
fcc and hcp phases. It is now shown by ab initio pseudo-potential cal
culations that the model itself remains essentially valid when abandon
ing the atomic-sphere approximation, although the errors of the model
are intensified and the quantitative results may be considerably influ
enced by this abandonment.
