Abstract
The complex ion has a twofold axis passing through the Co-III ion and the carbonate ion. The Co-III ion is hexacoordinated in a distorted oc tahedral geometry composed of the four N atoms of the macrocyclic tetr aamine ligand and two O atoms of the carbonate ion. The macrocyclic li gand has a fold structure in which each of the two six-membered rings is in a chair form and each of the two five-membered rings is in a ske w form. The perchlorate ion is too far from the Co-III ion to allow co ordination.
