The two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit of )imidazoI[4,5-
b]pyridin-2-yl)-3,3-dimethylbutanoic acid have similar geometries exce
pt for their dimethylbutanoic acid groups. The imidazopyridine group a
nd the phenyl ring least-square planes make a dihedral angle of 102.34
(9)degrees in molecule (1) and 117.04(8)degrees in molecule (2). The c
arboxylic group of (2) occupies two positions with equal occupancy fac
tors. The C(17)-C(18) bond (C-beta-C<(gamma>)) of the butanoic acid ch
ain is slightly longer than usual as a result of steric hindrance. Two
O-H...N hydrogen bonds take part in the cohesion of the structure.
