Kf. Tebbe et T. Gilles, REFINEMENT OF THE CRYSTAL-STRUCTURE OF TE TRAETHYLAMONIUM HEPTAIODIDE, Acta crystallographica. Section C, Crystal structure communications, 49, 1993, pp. 2042-2045
The long known structure of tetraethylammonium heptaiodide, Et,NI,, ha
s been largely confirmed. It consists of linear triiodide units I-3(-)
perpendicular to layers of iodine molecules I-2. They are connected t
o the ends of the I-3(-) ions forming a network of zigzag chains. The
holes of this iodine network are filled with the now ordered cations,
so the centrosymmetric space group Abam has to be replaced by the nonc
entrosymmetric Aba2.
