Time-resolved predetonation absorption spectra of silver azide were me
asured using the ''spectrum per pulse'' technique. An analogy is obser
ved between the behavior of the absorption spectra at the initial stag
es of explosive decomposition and radiolysis. From the character of th
e spectra it is inferred that during the explosive decomposition of Ag
N3 the formation of N-2(-) radicals precedes the formation of N-4(-) r
adicals. (C) 1995 American Institute of Physics..
