Solvent extraction of U(VI) and V(V) from pH solutions and solutions o
f mineral acids into chloroform solutions of 4-adipoyl and 4-sebacoyl
derivatives of bis(1-phenyl-3-methypyrazolone-5) has been investigated
. The effect of decanol on the extraction process is reported. The sep
aration factors for extraction of these metal ions from pH solutions a
nd solutions of various hydrochloric acid concentrations are reported.
Separation of the metal ions from one another is optimal in 3 M HCl s
olution or when pH of aqueous phase is 6-7. The role of decanol in inc
reasing the separation factor of V(V) from U(VI) in 3 M HCl solution i
s reported and 4-sebacoylbis(1-phenyl-3-methylpyrazolon-5) is used for
separating the metal ions from one another. An extraction-spectrophot
ometric method for the analysis of V(V) in a mixture with U(VT) and so
me metal(II) ions is presented. Beer's law (lambda = 500 nm, epsilon =
2.0 x 10(3)) is valid from 2-50 ppm V(V) concentration.
