Abstract
The title compound, 2,4-hexadiyne-1,6-diyl bis(p-nitro-benzenesulfonat e), (pNBS), C18H12N2O10S2, is a symmetrical di-para-substituted diacet ylene R-C=C-C-=C-R, where R is -CH2-O-SO2-C6H4-NO2. In this compound, the volume of the NO2 group is 23.0 Angstrom(3), almost equal to that of a CH3 group (23.5 Angstrom(3)) in the well known polymerizable symm etrical diacetylene, 2,4-hexadiyne-1,6-diyl bis(p-toluenesulfonate) (p TS). pNBS, however, crystallizes in an unreactive monomeric form.
