Abstract
This paper presents a list of the random factors that affect the detec tion and noise-immunity characteristics of optoelectronic devices and gives expressions that connect the current values of these factors to the values that determine the detection and noise-immunity characteris tics. Methods are described for obtaining limiting and probability est imates of these characteristics. (C) 1998 The Optical Society of Ameri ca.
