Abstract
Antimalarial drug artemisinin and haemin react in vitro, to give a del ta-mese hydroxy porphyrin isolated as a stable dimethyl esterified zin c complex and characterised as (20-hydroxyprotoporphyrinato dimethyl e ster)zinc(II) by NOESY, visible absorption and ESI-MS; the structure s heds light on the mechanism of action of endoperoxide antimalarials.
