Abstract
2-Acetoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone undergoes photochemical regio- and stereo -specific (2 pi + 2 pi) addition to styrene and 1,1-diphenylethene in high yield, whereas the stilbenes yield mainly spirooxetanes: the cycl obutane formation occurs essentially quantitatively in sunlight.
