Abstract
In the Ir-III (ca. 10(-6) mol dm(-3)) catalysed oxidation of formaldeh yde by Ce-IV in aqueous H2SO4 media an intermediate involving an assoc iation of the catalyst, substrate and oxidant is formed before the ele ctron transfer step and Ir-III/Ir-IV catalytic cycle operates.
