Proteolytic and amylolytic activities of sea water were studied in rel
ation to population and biomass of jellylike animals during 1994-1996.
In the 0-150 m water column, total proteolytic and amylolytic activit
ies describing the potential rate of biopolymers hydrolysis varied fro
m 10 to 478 U/l. Efficient rates of azocasein and starch hydrolysis (v
(1), mg/l per hotel) for sea water were calculated. We carried out cor
relation analysis of the biomass and population of Mnemiopsis and othe
r jellylike organisms. Potential rates of biopolymer enzymatic hydroly
sis in sea water proved to depend on the content ratio of Mnemiopsis-o
ther jellylike organisms.
