S. Craig et M. Easton, INTRAUTERINE FETAL VOLVULUS PRESENTING AS FETAL DISTRESS ON CARDIOTOCOGRAPHIC MONITORING - A CASE-REPORT, Journal of perinatal medicine, 26(3), 1998, pp. 244-247
A rare case of intrauterine fetal midgut volvulus is described. The co
ndition was diagnosed post delivery after the patient presented with m
arkedly decreased fetal movements and fetal distress on cardiotocograp
hic monitoring at 35 weeks' gestation. This baby was delivered and res
uscitated before proceeding to laparotomy and bowel resection. The inf
ant has subsequently made a good recovery. Intrauterine volvulus is ra
re, and presentation in this case was with fetal distress which has no
t previously been described as a presenting feature.
