A general symbolic formalism for economically handling quadratically n
onlinear systems is demonstrated by way of application to weakly nonli
near electron plasma waves in the S-harmonic approximation. For the fi
rst time, it is shown that the nonlinear corrections depend on a certa
in additional assumption (constant velocity or constant current), and
a symbolic formulation of boundary conditions is proposed. Further app
lications, such as to fusion plasmas, are envisaged.
