The application of a cathodic precipitation technique Tor the generati
on of films of alumina precursors at a hydrogen sorbing palladium elec
trode to the manufacture of humidity sensing materials is reported. Th
e response to changing atmospheric humidity of a device fabricated by
this electrochemical method has been compared to that of a commerciall
y available sensor. AC impedance techniques have been employed to prob
e the electrochemically generated sensor's conduction mechanisms at va
rious humidity levels, and an equivalent circuit model has been propos
ed for the device.
