Abstract
The oxidation of Ru(dppe)(CO)(3) with various o- and p-quinones is des cribed. Reaction with 3,5-di-t-butyl-o-benzoquinone yielded a metallac yclic complex which crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/c with a = 21.8388 (1), b = 12.0734 (1), c = 17.6173 (3) Angstrom, beta = 105.549 (1), and Z = 4. The complex exhibited slightly distorted oc tahedral geometry and contained a puckered metallacyclic ring resultin g from the formal addition of the o-quinone moiety across the Ru-C bon d of a metal carbonyl. Reaction of this quinone adduct with an alkylam ine produced a known bis(carbamoyl) complex, Ru(dppe)(CO)(2)[C(O)NHR]( 2). The reaction of Ru(dppe)(CO)(3) with p-quinones generated unidenti fied oxidation products which exhibited a similar reactivity with amin es to form bis(carbamoyl) complexes.
